1. How do I apply for a grant?

Complete the application form and send it with a short letter explaining your project and your latest accounts to the secretary at PO Box 1624 Shirley Solihull B90 9QZ.

2. What is a 'Small Grant'?

A grant to a local charity, from £500 to £1,000. Occasionally grants can be outside this range.

3. What is a 'Special Grant'?

A grant to a charity that is well known to the Trustees, not necessarily in Birmingham. There is no limit to a special grant.

4. Do you consider grants outside Birmingham?

We cover the following postcode areas for small grants: B1-B48, B51-B59, B62-B76, B81-B94, WS1-WS5, WS9-WS10. See Eligibility.

5. Do we have to be a registered charity to apply?

Yes.

6. Do you support individuals?

No.

7. Do you support animal charities?

No.

8. When is the best time to apply?

By mid March for the spring meeting and mid October for the winter meeting. See Meetings timetable.

9. Do you have a phone contact number?

No. Correspondence is by letter or email.

10. Can we apply for more than 1 grant in a 12 month period?

Small grants will normally only be considered once in a 12 month period.

11. Can an organisation have more than one grant at a time?

We will only consider one application from each charity.

12. You have already given us a grant. Can we apply again for the same purpose?

We will consider each application on its merits. In some cases we may offer a further grant for the same purpose.

13. Will the Trust fund core costs such as equipment?

Yes.

14. We are a new charity and do not yet have any audited accounts.

Send what financial records you have, preferably with an endorsement from a charity known to us. Please see lists of charities supported on the Eligibility page.

15. Do you acknowledge all applications?

Yes.

16. When will we hear if our application has been successful?

In January or June, following the meeting. All applicants who have been told that their request is being considered at the meeting will be notified of the outcome.

17. If you turn down our application will we be told why, and is there an appeals procedure?

We will tell you if you have not been successful but we will not enter into correspondence.

18. Do you expect us to spend the grant within a certain time?

Yes we would expect you to use the grant reasonably soon, certainly within a year.
